FAQs for Authors Submitting Open Access Monographs
An Open Access Monograph is a long form research work on a single topic, usually by a single author or group of authors. An open access monograph is free for anyone to read online.
Monographs will be published under a CC BY-NC license.
Yes, as well as an ISBN for the print edition.
UBP publishes across a wide range of subjects, including Humanities, Medicine, Law and Business and Economics. It is open to submissions of all subject areas though will from time-to-time put out specific calls for submissions via its online platform.
Yes, monograph proposals will undergo blind peer review by external and independent experts, with reviewed processed via UBP’s online platform and managed by UBP’s editorial team. Following the review process, submissions will either be accepted for publication, accepted pending requested changes or rejected for publication.
Submissions can be submitted online at UBP Open Books’ online platform. This can be accessed here. They will then go into the queue for initial review and if accepted for peer review they will then proceed to the second stage. If accepted following the review process they will then move into copyediting followed by production.
Accepted manuscripts will receive professional copyediting and typesetting. The author(s) will also have a chance to review typeset proofs and to make any required changes before publication.
Published monographs will be available for free from UBP Open Books’ platform to view or download as a PDF. They will also be registered, distributed and indexed via various global research repositories, search engines and indexes.
Yes, in additional to the open access online version, there will be a print edition made available for sales via print-on-demand.
It depends on the kind of copyright that was used and the amount of material that the authors intend to reuse. In some cases authors may need to get permission from other publishers before reusing part of their past work.
At submission, authors should disclose if any part of their manuscript has been published and if so, where it has been published.
It is free to submit a monograph and the manuscript processing charge (MPC) is only due after acceptance. The MPC covers the cost of publication and ensures that your monograph will be freely available online in perpetuity under a Create Commons license.
The MPC for each monograph will be confirmed ahead of acceptance and are dependent on length of text but as an indication of likely cost:
